A few days..

A few days have passed us since I have been able to blog. Basically I am just getting back into the groove from the funeral trip to Washington and trying to catch up with work.
I love the family I dont get to see that often in other states but I really missed my own bed and my favorite pup Kyley.

Ollie on left, Kyley on right
Sunday night I made a repeat Thanksgiving dinner for my parents, sister and friend. Complete with my super delicious Texas Yams!

I also signed up for the DailyMileSecretSanta! I love gift exchanges and you have until Dec 6th to sign up for this one.
Click to join!

Ive also been participating in the Holiday Booty Buster Challenge. Even while I was in Washington I made sure to at least get my 7 servings of fruit and veggies each day for at least 1 point. Now I am getting back into the routine of going to the gym everyday. I have been going every morning and getting my miles in!

Good luck to the rest of you HBBCers!! And the more the merrier for the Secret Santa!!

Just an update

Hello there! I'm currently in Washington state. My grandfather passed away Wednesday morning and flew up a day earlier than I had planned. It has been great visiting with family and sharing stories. My grandpa was a great man who provided for his 6 children and was married to my grandma for 64 years. I'm trying to take several pictures so I can load them when I get more time. Well I am off to bundle up and head to my uncles for dinner.

Xmas Ornament Xchange

I just signed up for this ornament xchange. I love the holidays and especially the decorations. I've never been apart of a blogging xchange so I'm interested to see how it works.

Go on over to Run DMT's blog and sign up for the ornament exchange! The more the merrier!

I already have a few places in mind where I will be looking for ornaments :D

Family time

Well today I am packing to fly up to Washington state to be with my family. We have some pretty serious sickness' going on right now and I need to be with my Grandmother.

Right now I am looking at the weather and its showing a high of 25 degrees! BURRRR! I had to go out tonight and buy a jacket. I'm also trying to figure out what I am going to do with my feet! lol

Short post but I will try to update more on Thursday when I am near the computer :)

PS. How am I supposed to run in the snow?!

Weekend Part Dos

Continuing..
On Saturday I enjoyed a 3.5 mile jog with my friend Ashlie who will be doing a 5k with me in December. She is also a certified personal trainer so I get her tips while training!
After we stretched we visited a local farmers market that was very small and a stop by Starbucks to discuss our plan for completing the 5k.
To many 5k’s aren't that big of a deal compared to the half-marathon I will be doing in March but I am a very new runner and really don’t want to get injured before the half marathon training begins!

Later that day I was rejoined with Jen as we cleaned her old cottage and finished the evening with fro-yo! This was a new place I had never been to called Crazy 4 Yogurt. I have never seen such a topping selection before!

I stuck with my all time favorite toppings: Fresh Strawberries, Oreo crumbles, Butterfinger crumbles and just a dash of caramel syrup. All on top of yogurt flavors: cake batter, cappuccino and fat-free mint.
So that has been my weekend thus far, aside from church this beautiful Sunday morning.

What are your favorite fro-yo flavors and toppings?

Weekend Part I

So I haven’t been able to post for a few days. Suddenly I have a life? Friday night my friend Jen was a free bird for the night and we were going to LIVE. IT. UP.
Mas Shots!!!
But by the time we each had a delicious cranberry margarita…

We decided to call it quits and head to Target which then indicated we are definitely getting old

Party Animals!!

While at Target Jen proceeded to buy a ton of items for her new house and I bought a box of hair dye.

I have NEVER put dye from a box on my hair. My sister works for AVEDA so I have had the luxury of being able to use high quality products on my hair. Well now I live over 400 miles from her and am trying to be super cheap. I really didn’t want to spend over $100 on my hair.
So we went back to Jens house and she proceeded to work her magic but her magic must have taken the day off… because my hair turned grey and BLUE!!!

AHHHH!!!

We decided to go to bed and try again Saturday. We headed over to Sally’s Beauty Supply and they were life savers! Directed us to the correct products and voilà! Back to blonde! Whoo hooo!
Stay tuned for Part II!

Dilution is the solution to pollution

So drink your water!

This is how I remember to drink enough water thru the day.

What do you do to remind yourself about your water intake?

Visions of sugar plums

So I don't know about you, but as soon as Halloween is over my mind is on the Christmas season. I love everything about the holiday! The decorations, hot cocoa, the movies, snow, presents (both giving and receiving), the cheery mood just about everyone is in, praising the birth of Jesus... I could go on but I have already written a few posts today.

The point of this post is to share the HOLIDAY BOOTIE BUSTER CHALLENGE 2011! It will run from November 19 thru January 6. I am hoping this challenge will be what I need so I stay on track and actually get my runs in, in between my two favorite holiday activities... baking and eating. Check it out the link above and sign up! I heard there will be some awesome prizes too :)

Only 46 days until Christmas.. hehe
And with that said, To all a good night!

Whats for dinner?

So I lived with this girl who was really into CrossFit and all things Paleo. I came across this recipe for her and in turn fell in love with it as well.

Jimmy's Taco Salad
1 lb of ground turkey (extra lean)

1 can Rotel Original (but I LOVE tomato so I add 2)

Cook ground turkey in large skillet. Get rid of any excess oil. Mix in Rotel with cooked meat and then add 1 tbsp minced garlic.

Let simmer for a few minutes and then add taco seasoning.
Taco seasoning mix (mix all together in small bowl)

1 tbsp minced dry onions
2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp cayenne pepper

Let simmer a little more and you’re good to go.

Put a couple handfuls of spinach on a plate.
Dump some taco meat on top. OH! And don't forget the avocado slices! YUM!
SO GOOD! And plenty of leftovers for lunches for a few days.

On a side note, made this while listening to A Very She & Him Christmas. Yes, I am TOTALLY in the holiday spirit already ;)

My shoes!

So I went to Fleet Feet and got fitted for some sweet shoes :)
These are Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12. My very first pair of "running shoes". Talked about one excited chick!!

A new beginning

Well, here we are again, attempting another blog. This time I actually have stuff to write about! I am making a strong attempt to be a runner. I am signed up for a few events so far and have started "training" on my own.

So far I am making a few dumb mistakes. Like attempting to run in my brand new shoes & inserts, not stretching fully, running at a faster pace than I am used to, etc... The only sports I have ever seriously participated in has been water polo and swimming in high school. That means I NEVER ran!

This blog is basically going to be: Dash = my running adventures & Dish = about my personal life, celebrity gossip (which will probably be me swooning over Ryan Gosling), and FOOD! Ive been inspired by the blogs I have been following to start my own to document this journey.

Welp, here goes nothin'!
